6th edition of the Urban Dance Forum

It is in an atmosphere full of enthusiasm that the 6th edition of the urban dance forum begins this Tuesday April 23, 2024 at the Yaoundé National Museum, chaired by its promoter Arnaud Nguena.

To better understand, the promoter Arnaud Nguena expressed himself: “It is a question of showcasing the different actors who enter the development process so that urban dances can be known, loved and consumed in our dear homeland at their own pace. just value. This urban dance forum is a vast site of questioning and development of the actors who are there.

It must be said that this urban dance forum was created in 2019 and included a major development project in 2014 called “Battle Cameroon”. An event that multiplied into several giving birth to others. We have an urban dance school, a dance forum and a dance festival. It must be said that these are projects which integrate the structuring of urban dances in our country. This is how we set up FENASU  (federation of urban arts and sports) of which I am the founder. We have partners such as horizon culture and many others.

We are not on the fringes of what society offers, urban dances are not antithetical to professionalization, we offer an alternative solution to young people, it is a question of offering an opening because we can make a good living from dance as we can reconcile the two well, that is to say having a full-time job and practicing dance without problem.

We propose a concept so that professional dancers are accepted with what they do because I am a teacher but also I am a pioneer of break dancing. The added value is that I put my know-how at the disposal of those who are interested in it in order to demystify society's view through who they are through urban dance.

One of the panelists with a degree in economics, Céleste Okonor: “I combine business with pleasure because I have the opportunity to dance but at the same time, I have my full-time job. I'm in project management, resource management and with dance, it's a two in one. Likewise, I live my Christian life and all this allows me to flourish because I use my strengths to be the best version of myself. It's just a question of putting a name because it all amounts to the same thing, what's different is the spirit that we want to share. Do we want to transmit joy, sadness, seduction or even a spirit of peace? This is the whole meaning of what we want to spread around us. I advise young people to work and not be discouraged, an open mind allows you to see things better without being bitter. It’s about breaking free and seeing things differently.”

On the program for this 6th edition which runs from April 23 to 27, 2024, several activities and dance competitions with a prize pool for the big winner.

We will come back to this.
