April 25, 2024: Cameroon celebrates the 17th World Malaria Day

Placed under the theme "Promoting equity in health, gender and people's rights", this day of celebration of April 25, 2024 was punctuated by two highlights, namely the press briefing by the Minister of Public Health Dr. Malachie Manaouda in the conference room of the public health emergency operations center where he did not fail to engage all stakeholders in the pooling of forces in order to overcome this pandemic and the meeting of partners. “It is a question of engaging all stakeholders for a synergy of actions. Other sectors whose fields of action meet those of the fight against malaria, particularly in terms of vector and population behavior and community mobilization, are called upon to work with our competent services in a concerted manner to truly reduce malaria together. in our country.

At a time of decentralization, the CTDs are encouraged to take ownership of community-directed interventions by supporting the activities of multi-purpose community health workers in the field. It does not escape you that the role of the private sector as indicated above is preponderant in the concerns of multi-sectoral collaboration. In the sense that actors in the sector can help with the mobilization of resources on the one hand and must take into account aspects of the fight against malaria in their missions on the other hand. As for you media professionals, I would like to urge you once again to provide the most accurate and real-time information to all target groups. To inform them about the services and products offered and to encourage demand for care from the health services made available to the population. By supporting this approach, you must help dispel all forms of rumors, misinformation and disinformation that could cause families to hesitate to refuse certain services.

Through your articles, your broadcasts, your blogs, I call on you to popularize strategies, to share good practices so that heads of households and family managers take ownership of all malaria prevention measures and, moreover, remedies. early care in the event of a fever in a family member. The contribution of all is imperative to move towards the elimination of malaria in our country. Let's work together, let's fully commit, let's make our contribution to the response and let's envisage together that Cameroon leaves the list of 11 countries with the heaviest burden of malaria and why not expect rapid elimination in our country and in Africa . I know, it is not always easy but it is possible and as impossible is not Cameroonian, we will get there by the grace of God, God bless Cameroon” extract from the minister's declaration.

Subsequently, it was at the Djeuga Palace hotel in Yaoundé that all the actors, national and international partners met to salute each other's efforts around this pandemic with a presentation of the actions undertaken by the network of civil society for the elimination of malaria CS4ME, the WHO, the EPI and parliamentarians who aim to organize at the next June session of the National Assembly a special parliamentary day on the fight against malaria with the aim of inform, raise awareness, exchange and mobilize parliamentarians to accelerate the fight against malaria in Cameroon. Addressing challenges, supporting innovations and multisectorality, these are the challenges to which parliamentarians wish to make their modest contribution in advancing the fight against this disease.

It is with a message of hope and thanks to all the actors, partners of all kinds that the ceremony ended with the message of the representative of the Ministry of Public Health who wishes the support of all, the pooling strengths and the combination of all the actions made available (disease prevention, use of LLINs, treatment and vaccination) to block the path to the disease.
