The visit carried out by the Minister of Public Works on April 24, 2024 noted that the connection roads on both the Yaoundé and Boumnyebel sides circulate easily. In fact, provisional acceptance of the completed work is set for April 30, 2024 and operations prior to this acceptance have started.
A total length of 25 km on the Yaoundé and Boumnyebel sides has been completed, with the aim of connecting phase 1 of the Yaoundé-Douala highway to the existing network. For the commissioning of this 60 km motorway section, two constraints had to be lifted, the construction of the connection roads and that of the buildings and operating equipment. Concerning the first, the connection roads are completed, the signaling work is also completed, the company is making the final adjustments, both on the Yaoundé and Boumnyebel sides. The subsidiary works necessary for the operation of this first motorway section are currently being carried out. This work mainly concerns the construction of toll station buildings and metal canopies at kilometer points 00 and 59+400, all of which will require the acquisition of operating equipment.
To date, the construction work on the PK 00 buildings has been completed and the equipping of this building has started. At PK 59+300, the structural work has also been completed and work on the second work has started. On the site, all the equipment necessary for operations has been received by the company, in particular the toll booths and all electronic equipment. If we stick to the forecasts of the CFHEC company, the operating equipment will be delivered at the end of the first half of 2024. The Minister of Public Works has therefore instructed the company to develop the retro planning of completion of work related to operating equipment as soon as possible for transmission to the Ministry of Finance.
The question of the cost of the toll was also raised during the meeting chaired by the Minister of Public Works, following the visit to the sites. To this end, it was specified that consultations have already been held, and others are planned, to determine the “fair price” which will allow users to travel on this infrastructure. The start of work on phase 2 will also have been a point of debate during this meeting. The company is ready for its part and has already positioned its machines at kilometer point 60, it is only waiting for the rights of way to be freed to get started.
