The world of cocoa has been gathering since Sunday, April 21, 2024 in Brussels, on the occasion of the 5th edition of the World Cocoa Conference (World Cocoa Conference-WCC). The event organized by the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) under the theme “𝘗𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘢𝘤𝘢𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘢 𝘣𝘭𝘦,” brings together stakeholders in the cocoa value chain, from governments to cocoa farmers, cooperatives to exporters, traders to retailers .
The Cameroonian delegation, led by the Minister of Commerce, 𝗟𝘂𝗰 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮 𝗔𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗮, brand ment his presence at this summit. This Monday, during the closing of the Panel on the European Union's Sustainable Cocoa Initiative, 𝗟𝘂𝗰 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮 𝗔𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗮 received a loud ovation by urging the EU to extend transparency not only to cocoa production via traceability, but also to the cocoa market, one of the most opaque in the world.
Echoing the European Union Regulation on deforestation, the Minister of Commerce stressed that Cameroonian producers deserve a bonus rather than exclusion from the market, given their environmentally friendly production system. “𝘕𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘯𝘦 𝘥é𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘴 𝘭𝘢 𝘧𝘰𝘳ê𝘵. 𝘕𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘤𝘦 𝘲𝘶’𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦 ‘’𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘢 𝘤𝘢𝘰 𝘥’𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘰-𝘧𝘰𝘳ê𝘵 ‘’, 𝘤’𝘦𝘴𝘵 to 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘱𝘳é𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳ê𝘵𝘴,” said the government member.
As for the current price level, the Minister of Commerce indicated that it remains insufficient, representing only a fraction of the profits reaped by the other links in the chain. The Conference ends this Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
