The WHO Regional Director for Africa was received in audience by Dr MANAOUDA Malachie.
The Regional Director of the World Health Organization for Africa discussed the afternoon of March 5, 2024 with Dr. MANAOUDA Malachie on the decision taken by the Head of State, His Excellency Mr. Paul BIYA, to accept to be the first country to launch vaccination against Malaria.
Ms. MATSIDISO MOETI, the Regional Director of the World Health Organization for Africa, arrived in Cameroon as part of the high-level meeting concerning the countries most impacted by malaria that Cameroon is currently hosting. It was first a question for her and the delegation accompanying her to discuss the official launch of vaccination against Malaria for children.
A project intended to strengthen the national health system. Ms. MATSIDISO MOETI instructed Minsanté to convey her organization's congratulations to the Head of State for having taken decisions to improve the health of the population, particularly through the mechanism of access to quality health care. A challenge that is on the verge of being successful, especially since the experience has not always been easy for several African countries.
During the forty-minute exchange, the WHO Regional Director for Africa returned to the launch of Universal Health Coverage, the capacity to deal with Public Health issues. She will declare on this second point that Cameroon is a model in terms of incident management. The experience that the country now enjoys must be shared with other African countries.
Above these elements, it is important, she added, in the course of the exchanges, to congratulate the Cameroonian Government for all the efforts made in the framework of improving its health system, to the effect of offer quality care at a lower cost to populations.
The WHO Regional Director for Africa thanked Cameroon through Minsanté not only for the partnership with the WHO, but also because it is one of the first countries to experiment the vaccine against malaria and having found good awareness-raising strategies to convince populations to adhere to this additional solution for protection against the disease.
As part of the mission on the transformation of the Cameroonian Health System, Dr Manaouda Malachie expressed his gratitude to the WHO for its availability to support Cameroon in improving the Health System. For him, his support is one of the motivations of the government which, despite the difficulties encountered, he said, remains determined to achieve the objectives set by the President of the Republic. This being said, the head of Health immediately unveiled some strategies for incident management. And as for Universal Health Coverage, he indicates, it currently concerns children aged 0 to 5, pregnant women, and patients suffering from kidney failure.
To conclude his remarks, Minsanté, as part of awareness-raising, is in discussion with MINEDUB for the establishment of vaccination records for each child.
Finally, Ms. MATSIDISO MOETI did not fail to welcome Cameroon's commitment through the leadership of the head of Public Health in the implementation of the program and the resources put in place with the aim of alleviating and improving access to care for poor families. An approach which contributes to the improvement of its Health System and equity.
