The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel NganouDjoumessi, President of the National Steering Committee for Integrative Road Programs, the Transport and Transit Facilitation Project in the CEMAC zone and the Multimodal Transport Project, chairs this Wednesday March 6, 2024 at the hotel Mont Fébé of Yaoundé, a session of the said body. The work takes place in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Vice-President of the Committee and several technical and financial partners.
The objective of this 8th session is to examine and validate the 2023 annual report and the 2024 work plan and budget of the Jointly Funded Road Projects Unit of the Ministry of Public Works. It should be noted that the execution of road projects by this Unit has today resulted in the development and rehabilitation of 1,172.54 km of road.
Currently, the overall volume of financing for active road projects is 1,508,936,022,878 CFA francs for a set of seven (07) technical financial partners (BAD, BM, BDEAC, JICA, BID, AFD and the EU). Among other active programs and projects, related projects linked to the Cross-River bridge, infrastructure related to the development of the Kumba – Mamfe road, the functionality of the common border post of the Mintom – Lele – Ntam-Mbalam road, the construction of the Batchenga – Ntui – Yoko-Lena-Tibati-Ngatt road, the rehabilitation of the Yaoundé – Bafoussam – Babadjou road, and the development of the Grand-Zambi – Kribi and Bogo – Pouss roads, the construction of the Ring Road , the construction of the bridge over the Logone between Yagoua (Cameroon) and Bongor (Chad), the development of roads to open up the Kribi Industrial Zone (PARZIK), the reconstruction of the Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri road (MDK) and the construction of the bridge over the Ntem River.
In his opening speech, the Minister of Public Works focused on the performance of the operational teams in the implementation of road projects carried out by the Jointly Financed Road Projects Unit, while noting the achievements that have been made. stated in terms of projects completed to date. In their various speeches, the technical and financial partners welcomed the developments made, while emphasizing the improvement of monitoring and performance of companies.
In the perspectives, several points were listed, in particular the process of stifling the teams of the Jointly Financed Road Projects Unit which should be accelerated in the coming months with the mobilization of fiduciary and technical staff, in order to allow the taking into account hand of all the activities planned in 2024, the main ones of which are: the start of work on the Sale-Tilde section, as part of the retroactive financing of PACRI, the start of work on the Ndjole-Mankim road section, the completion of the development works on the Babadjou-Welcome Bamenda road including the Bamenda town bypass and the first 5.5 km of the Bamenda urban crossing, preparation of the business consultation file for contracting and the start of work on the northern penetrating road to Yaoundé under the resources of the BDEAC to be optimized within the framework of PAST-1, the completion of road works on the Ntui-Meteing and Babadjou-Bamenda road sections, 184.4km long, completion of numerous technical studies for the rehabilitation and/or development of roads and the improvement of the framework and working environment.
