The Regional Public Works Delegate for the Littoral region proceeded on Monday, March 18, 2024, to the launch of the cantonment work on the National 3, section Bekoko (Interchange) - Ponts du Moungo, over a length of 5,360 km.
This work carried out by the company SOTRATEL for a period of 7 months, divided into three passes including a heavy pass which will extend over 3 months, a semi-heavy pass lasting 2 months and a light pass lasting 2 months, has the overall aim, to free up the road rights-of-way in order to facilitate the movement of users.
Cantoning is all basic maintenance operations carried out manually or mechanically on the edges of a section of road and on its drainage system, with the aim of promoting visibility and improving sanitation.
The company in charge of the work will therefore carry out tasks such as weeding or clearing the edges of the road, pruning trees or shrubs, stripping and cleaning the shoulders, cleaning existing hydraulic structures, cleaning of ditches and outlets, clearing upstream and downstream of engineering structures and on sections of the watercourse bed, restoration of guardrails and safety barriers, restoration of signage and security signs and clearing rights-of-way. In view of the way in which cantonment activities were carried out, the Ministry of Public Works recently developed a methodological guide for cantonment on road axes.
Calls for Tenders for the execution of cantonment works on certain main paved roads of the national network have recently made it possible to enter into contracts with several companies.
