“Investing in Women: Accelerating the Pace”
this is the theme chosen for this 39th edition of International Women's Day.
The Yaoundé parade on Boulevard du 20 Mai was chaired by the first lady Chantal BIYA. Nearly 21,252 women from all spheres of Cameroonian society were present for the closing of a week of activities rich in color and sensation. In 2018 in his campaign profession for the presidential election, HE Paul BIYA, President of the Republic already said it, I quote: “I am committed to accelerating the process of institutionalizing gender parity; I am committed to strengthening consideration of the needs of women in sectoral public policies; I am committed to improving the level of participation of women in political, economic, social and cultural life” end of quote.
Mrs. Marie Thérèse Obama née Abena Ondoa, Minister for the Promotion of Women and the Family said this in Akono during the national launch of the 39th edition of International Women's Day 2024 "Cameroonian women express their unreserved support for the policies launched to meet all development challenges, in a surge of patriotism, consolidated fraternity and unity. After the bouquet of honor, eleven cars of women from all social backgrounds stormed the post office roundabout with a view to passing in front of the official platform.
It was the apotheosis of a week of activities which ended on the boulevard with such beautiful outfits adorned with assortments of which only they have the secret. People living with disabilities (physical, visual, reduced motor skills, etc.) were at the party with the Ministry of Social Affairs. And what can we say about UN organizations, certain development partners, sister countries like the CAR that have left their mark on this celebration.
It was with a dinner offered to distinguished guests by the first lady at the Hilton hotel and the popular celebrations in the various headquarters that the lanterns were extinguished, meeting next year for another edition.
