It was in the presence of the Deputy Director of Navigation, Safety and Protection of the Maritime Environment and Waterways, Elvis HENE NGWANE, representing the Minister of Transport (MINT). This event, which was held on April 25, 2024 at the La Falaise hotel in Yaoundé, also saw the participation of the director of the Kofi Annan International Training Center in peacekeeping, the army corps responsible for maritime security and officials from the Ministry of Transport.
This code adopted by the United Nations Security Council in its resolution 1325 of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda aims to promote the well-being of women in the maritime domain of ECOWAS and ECCAS countries. To achieve this, certain issues are highlighted, in this case, gender equality, peace and security. Its respect enables practitioners to foster an environment conducive to participation, protection, prevention, relief and recovery, in accordance with the pillars of WPS, while committing to protect, respect and strengthen rights, voices and empowerment of women within maritime communities.
Cameroon is the African country which hosts the launch of the said code because it is the first interface in the field of maritime security with the presence on its territory and more precisely, in Yaoundé of the Inter-regional Coordination Center (CIC) for the Maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea; a body established by the initiative of ECCAS, ECOWAS and CGG (Gulf of Guinea Commission) with the aim of implementing maritime security strategies in the Gulf of Guinea.
