Visit to the vaccination site at the Soa District Hospital.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health, Professor Louis Richard NJOCK led on the morning of March 6, 2024, on behalf of the Minister of Public Health, a strong delegation of participants in the ministerial conference on Malaria, to visit Soa District Hospital.
With the aim of touching on the reality of the Malaria vaccination experience in Cameroon, the Deputy Director of WHO, the Minister of Health of Burkina Faso, the Global Coordinator of PMI, the Executive Director of USAID among others, returned to the SOA District Hospital. The objective of this visit was not only to reassure populations about the quality of the Malaria vaccine, but also to encourage their support for vaccination.
Also, officials played the game by administering the first dose for some, and the second for others, to around fifty children aged 6 to 59 months. This was followed by a visit to the pediatric malaria care units, in particular the pediatric service and the prenatal consultation service. The journey of these services made it possible to identify the strengths and weaknesses of said care.
Since the launch of the malaria vaccine last January, at the Soa District Hospital, there has been great enthusiasm among the populations, with 52% of children already covered by vaccination. The wish expressed by the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), Dr NJOH Andreas ATEKE, is to make the vaccine more available, in order to respond to the strong demand recorded among vaccination services within communities.
A mobilization welcomed by Dr. Robert KAGOUROU, Burkinabé Minister of Health, for whom the introduction of the Malaria vaccine in Cameroon is a success thanks to the efforts of the Government, particularly under the leadership of his Cameroonian counterpart, Dr. MANAOUDA Malachie . An experience to be duplicated in other African countries.
