Phase 2 of the Yaoundé-Douala highway: the company prepares deforestation work


It emerges from the consultation chaired this Wednesday, February 28, 2024 by the Minister of Public Works that, the company CFHEC, partner of the State of Cameroon in the execution of this project which will allow the departure from Bibodi to Douala, is preparing the deforestation work and development of access roads, for the execution of the work. The company also noted that it has started preparation on the ground for the delivery of its equipment.


Today's consultation focused more on the examination of the CFHEC proposal, the level of preparation for the launch of the work and the analysis of the route, among other things. It appears generally that the expected lifespan for the roadway of this phase 2 is 20 years, which is similar to that of phase 1. Concerning the cost elements, the Project Owner has instructed the optimization technical choices, likely to drive costs down.

According to the provisions of Decree N 2023/141 of February 23, 2023, the route of this second phase must pass through the locality of Yabassi to end in Massoumbou, at the point of intersection with the bypass road of the city of Douala, over a length of 139.15 km. As the work on the bypass road is not yet complete, a connection road of approximately 8 km will be built. A connection to Edéa and Dibamba is also planned.

At the end of this consultation, the company was instructed to draw up its work schedule and send its final financial proposal.
