144,817 newly registered voters as of March 27, 2024, including 90,124 men compared to 54,693 women.
This is the main information to remember from this first ordinary session on March 28, 2024, held at the institution's headquarters in Yaoundé. In his appropriate speech, Dr ENOW ABRAMS EGBE, president of the electoral council, president of Elections Cameroon, drew the attention of members to the need for the pre-electoral year to have already started.
Thus, he indicated “that in view of the mobilization observed among political groups, the media and civil society organizations, preparations are going well, both from the point of view of other actors and at our level. There is no more time to lose because the 2025 electoral cycle is already on the horizon, he recalled. He continued: “From now on, all our efforts are focused on the success of the next electoral cycle. As the saying goes, failing to prepare is preparing to fail. ».
He also insisted by telling the members of the electoral council that “We must therefore work hard so that this pre-electoral year 2024 is marked by better progress in our essential activities of voter registration, strengthening of staff capacities, commitment and involvement of actors in the process and logistical and material preparations”. He concluded his opening speech by urging the members of the electoral council to once again overcome all the challenges that challenge them. “our collective efforts, combined experiences and patriotic dedication must undoubtedly serve as a driving force for the realization of our strategic vision, which is to strengthen the foundations of democracy and ensure more inclusive, credible, transparent and peaceful elections in our dear and beautiful country, Cameroon ».
Despite the rumors about early or postponed elections in cottages, cozy living rooms or on social networks, there is serenity that reigns on the side of Elections Cameroon which looks to the future with full of optimism.
