It was in the presence of the Deputy Director of Navigation, Safety and Protection of the Maritime Environment and Waterways, Elvis HENE NGWANE, representing the Minister of Transport (MINT). This event, which was held on April 25, 2024 at the La Falaise hotel in Yaoundé, also saw the participation of the director of the Kofi Annan International Training Center in peacekeeping, the army corps responsible for maritime security and officials from the Ministry of Transport. Its respect enables practitioners to foster an environment conducive to participation, protection, prevention, relief and recovery, in accordance with the pillars of WPS, while committing to protect, respect and strengthen rights, voices and empowerment of women within maritime communities. Cameroon is the African country which hosts the launch of the said code because it is the first interface in the field of maritime security with the presence on its territory and more precisely, in Yaoundé of the Inter-regional Coordination Center (CIC) for the Maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea; a body established by the initiative of ECCAS, ECOWAS and CGG (Gulf of Guinea Commission) with the aim of implementing maritime security strategies in the Gulf of Guinea. Placed under the theme "Promoting equity in health, gender and people's rights", this day of celebration of April 25, 2024 was punctuated by two highlights, namely the press briefing by the Minister of Public Health Dr. Malachie Manaouda in the conference room of the public health emergency operations center where he did not fail to engage all stakeholders in the pooling of forces in order to overcome this pandemic and the meeting of partners. “It is a question of engaging all stakeholders for a synergy of actions. Other sectors whose fields of action meet those of the fight against malaria, particularly in terms of vector and population behavior and community mobilization, are called upon to work with our competent services in a concerted manner to truly reduce malaria together. in our country. At a time of decentralization, the CTDs are encouraged to take ownership of community-directed interventions by supporting the activities of multi-purpose community health workers in the field. It does not escape you that the role of the private sector as indicated above is preponderant in the concerns of multi-sectoral collaboration. In the sense that actors in the sector can help with the mobilization of resources on the one hand and must take into account aspects of the fight against malaria in their missions on the other hand. As for you media professionals, I would like to urge you once again to provide the most accurate and real-time information to all target groups. To inform them about the services and products offered and to encourage demand for care from the health services made available to the population. By supporting this approach, you must help dispel all forms of rumors, misinformation and disinformation that could cause families to hesitate to refuse certain services. Through your articles, your broadcasts, your blogs, I call on you to popularize strategies, to share good practices so that heads of households and family managers take ownership of all malaria prevention measures and, moreover, remedies. early care in the event of a fever in a family member. The contribution of all is imperative to move towards the elimination of malaria in our country. Let's work together, let's fully commit, let's make our contribution to the response and let's envisage together that Cameroon leaves the list of 11 countries with the heaviest burden of malaria and why not expect rapid elimination in our country and in Africa . I know, it is not always easy but it is possible and as impossible is not Cameroonian, we will get there by the grace of God, God bless Cameroon” extract from the minister's declaration. Subsequently, it was at the Djeuga Palace hotel in Yaoundé that all the actors, national and international partners met to salute each other's efforts around this pandemic with a presentation of the actions undertaken by the network of civil society for the elimination of malaria CS4ME, the WHO, the EPI and parliamentarians who aim to organize at the next June session of the National Assembly a special parliamentary day on the fight against malaria with the aim of inform, raise awareness, exchange and mobilize parliamentarians to accelerate the fight against malaria in Cameroon. Addressing challenges, supporting innovations and multisectorality, these are the challenges to which parliamentarians wish to make their modest contribution in advancing the fight against this disease. It is with a message of hope and thanks to all the actors, partners of all kinds that the ceremony ended with the message of the representative of the Ministry of Public Health who wishes the support of all, the pooling strengths and the combination of all the actions made available (disease prevention, use of LLINs, treatment and vaccination) to block the path to the disease. - Connection roads of the Yaoundé-Douala highway, phase 1: the work is completed
The visit carried out by the Minister of Public Works on April 24, 2024 noted that the connection roads on both the Yaoundé and Boumnyebel sides circulate easily. In fact, provisional acceptance of the completed work is set for April 30, 2024 and operations prior to this acceptance have started. A total length of 25 km on the Yaoundé and Boumnyebel sides has been completed, with the aim of connecting phase 1 of the Yaoundé-Douala highway to the existing network. For the commissioning of this 60 km motorway section, two constraints had to be lifted, the construction of the connection roads and that of the buildings and operating equipment. Concerning the first, the connection roads are completed, the signaling work is also completed, the company is making the final adjustments, both on the Yaoundé and Boumnyebel sides. The subsidiary works necessary for the operation of this first motorway section are currently being carried out. This work mainly concerns the construction of toll station buildings and metal canopies at kilometer points 00 and 59+400, all of which will require the acquisition of operating equipment. To date, the construction work on the PK 00 buildings has been completed and the equipping of this building has started. At PK 59+300, the structural work has also been completed and work on the second work has started. On the site, all the equipment necessary for operations has been received by the company, in particular the toll booths and all electronic equipment. If we stick to the forecasts of the CFHEC company, the operating equipment will be delivered at the end of the first half of 2024. The Minister of Public Works has therefore instructed the company to develop the retro planning of completion of work related to operating equipment as soon as possible for transmission to the Ministry of Finance. The question of the cost of the toll was also raised during the meeting chaired by the Minister of Public Works, following the visit to the sites. To this end, it was specified that consultations have already been held, and others are planned, to determine the “fair price” which will allow users to travel on this infrastructure. The start of work on phase 2 will also have been a point of debate during this meeting. The company is ready for its part and has already positioned its machines at kilometer point 60, it is only waiting for the rights of way to be freed to get started. Clément Noumsi
- 6th edition of the Urban Dance Forum
It is in an atmosphere full of enthusiasm that the 6th edition of the urban dance forum begins this Tuesday April 23, 2024 at the Yaoundé National Museum, chaired by its promoter Arnaud Nguena. To better understand, the promoter Arnaud Nguena expressed himself: “It is a question of showcasing the different actors who enter the development process so that urban dances can be known, loved and consumed in our dear homeland at their own pace. just value. This urban dance forum is a vast site of questioning and development of the actors who are there. It must be said that this urban dance forum was created in 2019 and included a major development project in 2014 called “Battle Cameroon”. An event that multiplied into several giving birth to others. We have an urban dance school, a dance forum and a dance festival. It must be said that these are projects which integrate the structuring of urban dances in our country. This is how we set up FENASU (federation of urban arts and sports) of which I am the founder. We have partners such as horizon culture and many others. We are not on the fringes of what society offers, urban dances are not antithetical to professionalization, we offer an alternative solution to young people, it is a question of offering an opening because we can make a good living from dance as we can reconcile the two well, that is to say having a full-time job and practicing dance without problem. We propose a concept so that professional dancers are accepted with what they do because I am a teacher but also I am a pioneer of break dancing. The added value is that I put my know-how at the disposal of those who are interested in it in order to demystify society's view through who they are through urban dance. One of the panelists with a degree in economics, Céleste Okonor: “I combine business with pleasure because I have the opportunity to dance but at the same time, I have my full-time job. I'm in project management, resource management and with dance, it's a two in one. Likewise, I live my Christian life and all this allows me to flourish because I use my strengths to be the best version of myself. It's just a question of putting a name because it all amounts to the same thing, what's different is the spirit that we want to share. Do we want to transmit joy, sadness, seduction or even a spirit of peace? This is the whole meaning of what we want to spread around us. I advise young people to work and not be discouraged, an open mind allows you to see things better without being bitter. It’s about breaking free and seeing things differently.” On the program for this 6th edition which runs from April 23 to 27, 2024, several activities and dance competitions with a prize pool for the big winner. We will come back to this. Marcelle Ebanda

- National Unity Day 2024: Only political parties represented in parliament are authorized to parade on Boulevard du 20 Mai
This is the main thing to remember from the meeting held on April 21 between Emmanuel Mariel Dijkdent, the prefect of the Mfoundi department and the representatives of several Cameroonian political parties. On the instructions of the civil cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, the prefect of the department headquarters of the institutions summoned, on April 22, 2024, the leaders of a certain level of political parties. During this meeting, which took place in the conference room of the prefecture located in the Nlongkak district in Yaoundé, it was a question of communicating on the modalities of participation in the civil parade which will be held on May 20 on the eponymous boulevard at the occasion of the celebration of the 52nd edition of the National Unity Day. From this meeting, we essentially remember that only the political groups represented in parliament will be able to beat the tarmac in front of the head of state. These include the Rdpc, the Undp, the Fsnc, the Sdf, the Pcrn, the Udc, the Mdr, the Ums and the Upc . Furthermore, in addition to the condition of representativeness in the national assembly or the senate, the administrative authority added that the selected parties must, not only send a written declaration to its services, or even to cite only these few conditions, respect the number of squares which are respectively allocated to them as well as the time allotted for their passages which is 15 minutes. But also, paraders are required to use cell phones during the parade and they must wear shoes appropriate to the occasion. With the aim of celebrating national unity, political parties were therefore reminded that during this parade, only messages in this direction will be retained. “We celebrate unity... We do not want signs that carry messages contrary to unity or those that have not been approved by the civilian cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic. It is also not an opportunity to campaign. That being said, political parties authorized to parade can only have one effigy, namely that of the guarantor of the institutions of the Republic,” concluded Emmanuel Mariet Dijkdent. Julien Efila

- 17th World Malaria Day
Placed under the theme “Promoting health equity, gender and people’s rights”. The deputy permanent secretary of the national malaria control program was in front of the press this Tuesday, April 23, 2024 to take stock of the situation of this disease in our country. An exchange with men and women of the media as a prelude to the celebration on April 25 of the international day against this disease which constitutes one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity in our country. The introduction of the vaccine since January 22, 2024 in the 42 most affected health districts remains a glimmer of hope in the face of this scourge. One of the objectives for the year 2023 was to reduce mortality and morbidity in our country by 60%. At the end of 2022, following a household survey, 26% of children were infected with plasmodium. The number of deaths linked to malaria was 9.9% in our health facilities. Remember that Cameroon is one of the 11 most affected countries in the world. 74% of FOSAs had at least 1 ACT while 8 out of ten regions actually received the distribution of long-acting impregnated mosquito nets (LLINs). The Central and Southern regions are lagging behind because they are under state funding. 69% of children under 5 years old were treated free of charge for cases of simple malaria and 39% for severe cases, which represents an overall rate of 62% of children under 5 years old having received free treatment in the health facilities. Overall, the results are satisfactory although much remains to be done and the expanded vaccination program has integrated the VAP anti-malaria vaccine into the vaccination schedule. It must be said with the other usual means, that is to say the mosquito nets, the treatment and the vaccine, the campaign to fight the disease, the national program has a bright future ahead of it in terms of response. Dr Fotso, Deputy Permanent Secretary welcomed the commitment of men and women of the media following public authorities to intensify mass communication around this scourge in order to reduce it to its simplest possible expression, which remains a public health priority in Cameroon. - 5th edition of the Yaoundé poultry show: Heading towards the transformation of the sector
The upgrading of Cameroonian poultry farming, an imperative. It is under the care of the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries that the Yaoundé international poultry show opened this Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the Yaoundé convention center. For three days from April 23 to 25, 2024, innovations and the latest technologies will be exhibited. Experts from all sides, authorities and stakeholders will discuss ways to migrate to broiler processing in Cameroon despite the fact that this sector faces many challenges. For the president of IPAVIC François Djonou “the inter-profession is doing quite well after the crises due to avian flu followed by the covid-19 period without forgetting the Russo-Ukrainian crisis, but the sector is currently growing. Our sector remains the one that offers the cheapest proteins on the Cameroonian market. The fluctuation of prices on the market is due to the various global crises, you know that the kg of corn was sold at 180frs less than ten years ago but since then, it has increased to 320frs per kg last year (2023) , a material which accounts for at least 60% of the poultry feed. It’s about developing value chains so that everyone can find a link that suits them in the sector.” It is a question of emphasizing processing so that chicken and eggs are available for all budgets. Several other members of the government were present alongside Dr Taïga during the opening ceremony and the visit to the stands. Reaction Dr Taïga, minepia «As you know, nature fairs are the indicators to see the performance of public policies and through this you can clearly see that poultry farming is modernizing, industrializing and that this sector meets the expectations of the government and the populations. And you also know that we import more chicken or cuts, it is thanks to these national players (poultry farmers). This means that the import-substitution policy instituted by the Head of State is concretized by the actors, the actions of the government and the populations. This is why it is widely publicized to report on the effectiveness of public policies and that they really meet expectations.». Clément Noumsi

A process that will allow Cameroon to implement pillars 4 and 6 of SND30 which relate respectively to “Development of human capital and well-being” and “governance, decentralization and strategic management of the State”. Indeed, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for 2030 aims to “Guarantee legal identity for all, in particular through birth registration”; And the African Union's Agenda 2063, which has the slogan "the Africa we want" by making civil registration a prerequisite for inclusive economic growth leading to socio-economic development of the 'Africa. - 14th edition of African Vaccination Week from April 22 to 28, 2024.
Placed under the theme “EPI@50” in reference to the 50 years of existence of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) This is the reason why the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the PEV Dr Andreas Njoh accompanied by his collaborators and in the presence of Cameroon's technical and financial partners gave a press conference on Monday April 22, 2024 at the headquarters of the PEV with the aim of mobilizing media partners around vaccination. One of the objectives of this communication campaign is to raise awareness among parents about vaccines which continue during the 2nd year of birth, such as the 2nd dose of the measles and rubella vaccine which is administered at 15 months. It is in order to protect our children that the 2nd dose of polio vaccine was introduced with the resurgence cases in neighboring countries. And the latest is the “VAP” anti-malaria vaccine which is in routine vaccination and is present in 42 health districts across the ten regions since January 22, 2024. The particularity of this vaccine is that it is administered at a time that mothers were not used to bringing children for vaccination, 1st dose at 6 months, 2nd dose at 7 months, 3rd dose at 9 months and 4th dose at 24 months. It should be noted that it is not present everywhere. According to the EPI, only 67% of health districts vaccinate in the country for several reasons, one of which, if not the most important, is the absence of the cold chain which allows vaccines to be preserved. The BIG CATCH UP is planned for the months of July, August and September 2024 for the catch-up of vaccines throughout the national territory for children aged 12 to 59 months to try to make up for missed vaccines throughout the country. This 14th edition of African Vaccination Week under the theme EPI@50, corresponds to the fiftieth anniversary of the expanded immunization program in the world. In Cameroon in 1974, there were only three centers in the cities of Yaoundé, Douala and Bafoussam; it has been since 1982 that this has spread to the rest of the country. Reaction Dr Andreas Njoh, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Expanded Program on Immunization « the objective of this African Vaccination Week is to strengthen activities, the engagement of populations on activities related to vaccination, to intensify activities on communication on vaccination activities so that the population becomes involved further, to reassure that all children, everyone receives their vaccines on time in order to be protected for a better quality of life for our population. During this African Vaccination Week, we will strengthen communication activities using all available channels or platforms so that everyone can receive the right information regardless of where they are about their rights to be protected by vaccination , them and their children. It will also be an opportunity to further engage these populations to promote vaccination activities but it will also be an opportunity for the Ministry of Public Health, through the expanded vaccination program, to congratulate parents and child guardians. their children have been fully vaccinated according to the Cameroon vaccination schedule. As you know, every child born has the right to vaccination, it is free because the partners and the State cover the related costs, therefore every child is supposed to have their vaccine in the different health facilities which offer vaccination services. additional vaccination for landlocked areas that are difficult to access, periodically health personnel make raids to ensure that these areas are covered by advanced and mobile strategies. In addition, Minsanté plans to further strengthen strategies for periodic campaigns to intensify and catch up with these children in difficult areas so that every child is vaccinated and protected against preventable diseases. - Ntui-Ndjole: the company suspended for non-compliance with socio-environmental standards.
If the construction work on this 60 km section on the Nationale 15 has so far progressed at a satisfactory pace, the fact remains that the environmental and social measures taken by the company China Railway 20 BUREAU GROUP CORPORATION worry the Project owner. Hence the instructions from the Minister of Public Works during the project review carried out on Friday April 19, 2024. The evolution of the work in the field contrasts with the deleterious climate perceptible in the relations between the company and its staff, due to working conditions which do not always respect the standards prescribed in the environmental and social management plan of the project. On April 18, 2024, the company CR 20 was notified of the decision of the Technical and Financial Partner to suspend disbursements and to suspend the work for non-compliance with environmental and social obligations and requirements. This notification follows a fatal accident that occurred a few weeks ago, unfair dismissals of staff and environmental non-compliances recorded. On the ground, on April 22, 2024, work has been formally suspended since receipt of this notification; only the work relating to the maintenance of traffic on municipal roads and the protection of the work already carried out on the RN15 justifies the instructions formulated by the Minister of Public Works to the company and which boil down to the recruitment of an expert in safety issues on the construction site and the immediate contracting of all personnel. Regarding physical execution, the progress of the works is estimated at 58% with 69.2% of roadworks and 79.62% of drainage, sanitation and protection works carried out along the main route. The project involves the construction of 60 km of road on Nationale 15 and the development of a total length of 73 km of municipal roads. Clément Noumsi
